1,500 Incredible Appalachian Accents!
The accent project is LIVE now
Taking a break from our normally scheduled commentary to take a small victory lap. After 20 long hours of editing, we are excited to share that our accent project is finally complete!
As you can see, we got really strong representation from the Appalachian region1, and were only missing a handful of counties.
I am EXTREMELY grateful to everyone who participated in this project by sharing their accent with us, and while we couldn’t use each one of them that were sent, I used as many as I possibly could.
So, rather than bore you with everything about it, I’d love for you to witness it for yourself by checking it out on our YouTube channel. Also, we do this for free, but if you want to support us you can by joining our Patreon or upgrading to a paid subscription here on substack.
Yes, I know the Appalachian Regional Commission’s map is flawed, that it is a political map (not a cultural one) and excludes certain parts that many include Appalachia. We use it because, IN GENERAL, it tends to cover most of what people consider Appalachia by and large AND it’s the only map we have that breaks the region down by county. We talk about this a lot on our podcast.

I just sat here and listened to a lot of North Carolina accents and found myself getting so homesick. I live in coastal Virginia now, and I don't really realize how much I miss hearing the sounds of those familiar accents. Thank you for this project.
Please send this to the Scions of movie making!!! So tired of their one accent fits all Southerners/Appalacians. Fantastic project many thanks!!
