Worthwhile to mention that juxtaposed with all our poverty is that Kentucky was the leading coal-producing state for years and 3/4 of that coal came from its eastern mountains in Appalachia. Central Appalachia, as well as northern, is rich in mineral wealth but the resources are owned by industrialists. We are a colony of the energy conglomerates. It serves them well for this region to be seen as in poverty. As Harry Caudill said, there are no museums or universities erected with the gazillions of dollars from coal extracted here by the big name philanthropists. So who should be helping Appalachia?
Of course he does. He hates his base ( he has said this on a couple occasions) and everyone else. Please let him experience what he is putting other people through.
It is not just a bullshit bill it is a murder bill. It will keep people from going to the doctor until it is too late. More people will end up in bankruptcy court and potentially losing their house because of medical bills. More unhoused people means more deaths. More people who are sicker will mean more early deaths. More people who are food insecure means more deaths. More poorly educated people means worse jobs and more unemployment will lead to all above and more deaths. So if JDick Vance and Peter Thiel want slaves then this is the way to go. So it really is the Big Murder Bill.

This matters to many people LBJohnson tried to help. Many are unaware of the helps. Others know it helps.

This area is one of the deepest red in the SE United States, with a few exceptions such as Asheville. It is a tragedy on every conceivable level.

instead of funnelling money to vast swathes of the country, just evacuate as many as want to leave, and resettle them someplace decent

I've spent a lot of time in on these areas. I'm not surprised that 47 and Shady would do this, but it's extremely frustrating.
